Your future
2. Grammar - Conditional sentence type 1 (if-clause)
Conditional sentence type 1 (If-clause: Bedingungssätze)
📝 rule:
Conditional clauses have two parts: An if-clause (type 1 → simple present) and a main clause (type 1 → will-future).
You want to say that something will happen in the future if something else (the condition) happens before.
CONDITION:"> If it rains, IN THE FUTURE: I will stay at home.
💡 form:
If I study every day If I hurry up |
, | my English will be very good. I will catch the bus. |
If I don‘t learn If I don’ hurry up |
, | my English won‘t be very good I won‘t catch the bus. |
The if-clause can come in front of the main clause (comma!) or behind the main clause (no comma!).
main-clause | if-clause | |
My English will be very good I won't catch the bus |
if I study every day. if I don't hurry up. |
✏️ examples:
Where is your English book? If I find your English book, I will give it back to you.
Noah will fly to Turkey next week if his mum finds cheap tickets.
⚠️ ️remember:
You can also use the short form of the will future:
If Nina and Noah have time, they’ll go shopping this afternoon.
⚠️ ️remember:
when = sobald, dann wenn (time 🕑)
if = wenn, falls (condition 🤷🏾♀️)
