Where do people work?
2. Reading - The hairdresser trainee
Here you can listen to the text:
Arif is training to be a hairdresser in a big salon in Berlin.
Here you can read his blog-entry:
"Hi, I‘m Arif. I‘m a hair stylist at ‘YOUR CUT’ - that‘s a trendy salon in Berlin.
My boss says it's okay that my hair style is a bit “special”, customers can see that I‘m creative!
I‘m still a trainee. I work 8 hours a day and learn about cutting and dying hair. I‘ve already learned to create some fantastic styles and I even practice them at home.
I‘m always busy and never bored. During my days in the salon I listen to the customers‘ wishes, I wash and dry the customers‘ hair.
Moreover, I cut beards. Many young men want to look trendy. Some of them want to look like Sergio Ramos, so our salon offers a special beard styling and skin care every Thursday from 6pm to 10pm.
I also must clean up, make coffee or tea, work at the reception and make appointments.
Many customers tell me stories about their lives or they just want to relax. So I have to be sensitive, too.
I work 5 days a week. Mondays are usually free.
The negative side of my job is that I have to stand long hours. My back really aches at the end of the day and my feet burn. Thank goodness for sneakers!!!
And I don‘t like to work on Saturdays. My girlfriend wants to spend the day with me but I can‘t.
My dream is to have my own salon one day and to be my own boss. That‘s a long way but I will work hard for it."
