2. Grammar - Ordinal numbers

📝 rule:

A cardinal number is a number that says how many of something there are, such as one, two, three, four, five.

An ordinal number is a number that tells you the position of something in a list, such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th etc.


💡 form:

Ordinal numbers end in "th" , BUT:

  • one ⇒ first (1st)
  • two ⇒ second (2nd)
  • three ⇒ third (3rd)

Noah's Birthday Surprise

It is one week until Noah’s birthday. He has to wait for seven more days!

His mum says: "Your birthday present will be a BIG surprise!"

Noah wonders: What will it be?

On the first day Noah thinks: "Maybe I will get my own laptop so I can play games and do my homework online!"

On the second day Noah thinks: "Maybe mum will bake me birthday cake as big as a car!"

On the third day Noah thinks: "Maybe it will be a dog! I can play with him and walk him and he will sleep in my room."

On the fourth day Noah thinks: "Maybe I will get a superman costume! I will wear it all day and save everyone who has a problem."

On the fifth day Noah thinks: "Maybe my dad will give me the cool new soccer boots I saw in the shoe shop! I will score a hundred goals with them."

On the sixth day Noah thinks: "Maybe we will go to Disneyland together and stay there for a whole week!"

The seventh day is Noah’s birthday. His mum smiles and says: "Come and see your surprise!"

It is the best present ever.

Noah's grandparents have come to visit all the way from Turkey, where they live.

Noah smiles and smiles and his grandfather lifts him up in the air and hugs him.

Write a text that answers the following questions:

  • Where will the party be?
  • What will you do?

Write in complete sentences. Then make your invitation look nice!

6. Grammar - Will-Future

Will-Future (Zukunft)

📝 rule (Regel)

You need the will-future for general predictions about the future, when you suspect that something will happen in the future or something will certainly happen. Often it is something you cannot change. You aslo need it for spontaneous decisions

Du benutzt das Will-Future für allgemeine Vorhersagen, wenn Du vermutest, dass etwas in der Zukunft passieren oder so sein wird. Oft ist es etwas, das man selbst nicht beeinflussen kann.
Spontane Entscheidungen stehen auch im Will-Future.


💡 form (Form)

subject + will + verb

Especially in spoken English, you use the short form after personal pronouns.
Insbesondere im gesprochenen Englisch wird häufig auch nach Personalpronomen die Kurzform verwendet:

We will play cards again this evening.
We'll play cards again this evening.
Maybe I will get a birthday cake. Maybe I'll get a birthday cake.
