Example / Beispiel:

Nina is standing at the corner of Main Street and Green Street.

She wants to go to the Oxfam shop, but she does not know how to get there. She asks a woman for the way.

  • Nina: Excuse me, I am lost. How do I get to the Oxfam shop, please?
  • Woman: To the Oxfam shop? Let me explain. You go straight on Green Street past Blue Way. Then you turn left into the next street. After that turn right into Red Avenue and you see the Oxfam shop on your right.
  • Nina: Thank you very much! Now I can find it.
  • Woman: You are welcome.

  • Nina: Excuse me, I am lost. Can you help me, please? How do I get to the Oxfam shop?
  • Woman: To the Oxfam shop? Let me explain. You go straight on along Main Street past Blue Way. Then you turn left into the next street. After that turn right into Red Avenue and you see the Oxfam shop to your right.
  • Nina: Thank you very much! Now I can find it.
  • Woman: You are welcome.

Now write your own dialogue. Pick a place on the map where Nina is now and where she wants to go.

Look at this street map. Akira is standing in front of the mosque. He wants to go to different places in town, but he does not know the way. Can you help him?

📌 1. Write short dialogues. Look at the examples from page before.

Describe the way from the mosque to:

a) the police station

b) the cinema

c) the pharmacy

d) the post office


📌 2. Read the dialogues out with a partner. If you work alone on a computer, read both parts out loud and make an audio recording. 

Lies die Dialoge mit einem Partner. Falls Du alleine am Computer arbeitest, lies beide Teile laut vor. Nimm den Dialog auf.

Look at the map again and make an interview with your partner.

Imagine you are at the school and want to go to the hotel.

Start like that:

  • Excuse me please. Can you tell me the way to the hotel?
    Yes of course, go along Main Street ...

Take parts and ask for different ways. You may also record your dialogue.

Übernehmt eine Rolle und fragt nach verschiedenen Wegen. Ihr könnt euren Dialog auch aufnehmen.

2. Where is it?*

Look at a map of your town and answer the following questions:

Sieh dir den Stadtplan deiner Stadt an und beantworte die folgenden Fragen:


Where is a church?       (e.g.: The church is at the market place.)

Where is a hotel?

What is next to the cinema?

Is there a supermarket next to the hotel?

Is the church near the river?

Where is the library?

Where is a swimming pool?

Where is the biggest park?

3. Team work

Work with a partner. Both of you look at the same map (street map 1, 2 or your own maps).

  1. Tell your partner the starting point and the end and let him/her explain how to get there. Then your partner has to do the same.
  2. Tell your partner your starting point and give him directions. He/she has to follow you on the map and tell you, where you are at the end. Then you swap.

Arbeite mit einem Partner zusammen. Ihr müsst beide auf die gleiche Straßenkarte gucken (Straßenkarte 1, 2 oder eure eigene Karte).

  1. Lege den Start- und Endpunkt fest und lass deinen Partner auf der Karte den Weg erklären. Danach tauscht ihr.
  2. Lege einen Startpunkt fest und erkläre Deinem Partner einen Weg. Am Ende muss er sagen, wo ihr jetzt seid. Dann tauscht ihr.
